A New Approach to Business Communication:

Plain English

Do you want to know how to write properly to convey your message at work?
Do you want to brush up your English writing skill?
Do you need to pay attention to different genres when you write?

If you answer ‘yes’ to all these questions, you must come and join us to know more about contemporary business writing practices in English.

In business world, we always communicate with people in writing – when we want to enquire about information, when we want to request something, when we want to express our dissatisfaction, when we want to promote our services or products – we all need to write. In order to achieve our different purposes and get our messages across, we have to equip ourselves with good writing skills. This seminar aims to provide learners’ with some knowledge of basic effective communication skills in English writing. We start from planning our draft to organizing our ideas and producing the final version.

Presenter’s profile

Jayson LO, MSc (Bath), PGDE (CUHK), BA (Hons) (HKPU)

Jayson is a Language Instructor, currently teaching English for a local university and some other NGOs. After Jayson finished his undergraduate studies, he started working in different industrial and commercial fields. A few years later he left his work and pursued his postgraduate studies in the UK. After he had returned to Hong Kong, he continued to work for both private and governmental organisations in order to understand more about communication at workplace. Meanwhile he started his part-time English teaching career. Until recent years, he started to concentrate on English language training for adults. After he had completed another postgraduate course of education in English language teaching, he started working for the Language Centre of a local university. He also provides language training for working adults and ethnic minorities in other institutes.

He believes “Learning is a never-ending process”. He likes to make use of time to acquire professional knowledge and qualifications such as the International Teaching and Training Diploma from the UK, and the National Corporate Trainer qualification from the PRC. He is currently pursuing another MA programme at the University of Hong Kong. Since he believes communication is vital for establishing harmonised relationship among people, and language is a tool for communication, particularly English language which is the common language spoken in almost every part of the world, he devotes himself to teaching English and cultivating his students.
